Name: Lyse Hext Door: Door Pass. I'm keeping her Submissive designation from the TDM. Canon: Final Fantasy XIV Canon Point: Post Patch 4.4 Age: 25 Appearance: One & Two History: A handy wiki link, though because it only covers until the end of Heavensward, I'll type out a quick summary of Stormblood thus far. SPOILERS FOR STORMBLOOD BELOW After Lyse reveals that she wasn't Yda, and that Yda had been killed trying to help refugees out of Ala Mhigo, she assumes the role of a leader in trying to help free Ala Mhigo from the clutches of the Garleans. She's not actually entirely sure how to do this, but she spends the entire expansion learning by doing. At the very beginning, they try to make gains on the Ala Mhigan side of the world, but ultimately fail once the Garleans (accompanied by Zenos) attack Rhalgr's Reach. It's due to the Warrior of Light that they withdraw, and that several lives are saved, but it doesn't make it any less of a devastating blow to the resistance. It's then that they decide that divide and conquer is going to be the best way to handle the Garlean threat. So with that, a group of people set off to Othard, in the far east, bouncing from Kugane to the Ruby Sea, where they gain the help of the Kojin (a beast tribe based on kappa) and the pirates. It's there that they learn to swim and breathe underwater so that they can accomplish what they need to do in the locale. They also realize that Yotsuyu is a bad person that does bad things and she needs to be taken care of. Susano may or may not have been accidentally summoned by the Warrior of Light at this time, but thankfully the Warrior of Light is a total badass and took him down before an accidental primal summoning could become an issue. Afterwards, they head into Yanxia, where they find Doma Castle and a bunch of people that have been beaten down by years of imperial rule. During their (first) stay in Yanxia, they learn more of the awful things that Yotsuyu had done to the people that reside there, including the unspeakable atrocities that were ordered in order to squash the notion of rebellion. At one point, the Garleans come to gather up some people to throw into their army and walk away with them. It takes a lot of inspiring and showing the people that someone cares about them, and won't give up on them to give them their hope and life back. After an assassination attempt on Zenos' life (which ultimately failed), the gang heads into the Azim Steppe to try to do two things: search for Hien, and gain the help of the resident Xaela Au Ra. Upon their arrival in a merchant village, they find Hien and join up with the Mol Tribe. It's here that they learn about this competition known as the Nadaam, which helps decide who the ruling tribe will be for a time. To prove themselves as Warriors of the Steppe, the group goes to prove their might in a trial known as Bardem's Mettle. When they succeed and leave, they meet up with the Oronir, and are brought in and told to swear themselves to the current leader before they're even allowed to participate in the Nadaam. Lyse and Hien are kept at the Dawn Throne while the Warrior of Light and Gosetsu do the tasks set before them by Magnai, and it's there that they have a heart-to-heart and Lyse starts to learn a little more about leadering and understanding people. Once they're free, they're allowed to go and participate in the Nadaam... which they do, and they win. With the Warrior of Light crowned the new Khagan of the area, they have gained the aid of the Au Ra present to help make sure that Doma is won back. They head back to Yanxia, and the help gained in the Azim Steppe proves to help, because after an elaborate and well-thought out plan, Doma is freed from the clutches of Garlean control and Yotsuyu has been knocked out of her position rather violently. With this, they head back to Gyr Abania so that they can begin their attack in recovering Ala Mhigo. After a quick duel at dawn between Lyse and the Warrior of Light, along with Lyse agreeing to help lead Ala Mhigo, they begin their push through Gyr Abania to retake it. The fight is difficult, but once Zenos is defeated... Ala Mhigo belongs to the people again instead of to the Garleans. Afterwards, Lyse lets the Scions know that she needs to take her leave so that she can focus on helping to rebuild her homeland. As the patches continue, much of Lyse's story becomes the story of her trying to rebuild and better Ala Mhigo. One of the first things she does is call a meeting with the various leaders of the community and they work on figuring out how they want their country to look. Lyse immediately takes monarchy off the table and nudges them in the direction of a republic... which everyone agrees on. As a general rule, she is always there for Ala Mhigo and she works with them every single step of the way as they build themselves up. She even gives Fordola a chance to redeem herself as time goes on, because she recognizes what could be an asset to Ala Mhigo going further. As time goes on, she turns her attention towards aiding her friends in the east, and also turns her gaze to the Garlean empire, because it's still causing trouble. And with that, that's about where we leave off! Personality: The first majorly important thing that you need to know to understand Lyse's actions is that she is a girl that's only just begun to find her path in life. She was a child that, upon turning 18, immediately assumed the role of her dead sister and spent the next six years pretending to be her sister rather than herself. One of her goals is to find her own path for herself, spurred on by Papalymo's last words. He wanted her to find her own path in the world, and she's determined to do that. This doesn't mean that she's an entirely different person now that she's pulled off the mask, though. Even while pretending to be Yda, some of her own personality shone through. It was convenient that she and Yda had a similar personality, but there is still enough of a difference to where she has to stop and think "how would Lyse do this?" instead of "how would Yda do this?" And with those thoughts, her actions become a little more subdued as she sorts through the five million emotions and thoughts that flit through her mind. Also, the grief she feels over Papalymo definitely contributes. When Papalymo was alive, her relationship with him resembled a boke and tsukkomi sort of act. This means that while Papalymo was the straight man that would often be serious and set her straight when she was a little too wild, Lyse was the one that would be energetic and drift through life without too many cares in the world. However, now that Papalymo is gone, she doesn't have anyone to ground her. This is actually fine, though, because his death was a huge turning point for her character in how she behaved. She's still a little naive about the world sometimes and she is incredibly reckless. Even though she is a little more grounded than she was before when she had someone to pull her back down to earth, she still doesn't think much (or at all, depending on the situation) before she leaps. She often doesn't care what the consequences may be as long as she thinks that she can help by being present in the situation. Lyse is an incredibly upbeat and laidback person, for the most part. She absolutely wears her heart on her sleeve for better or for worse. If she thinks or feels something, it's very likely that she's just already said it to you. In fact, she's probably become a little more open about her feelings now that she's pulled off her mask and Papalymo has passed. She's not one to bottle things up! If she doesn't understand what's going on, she says something, and she's not ashamed to admit that she doesn't understand. If she wants to encourage someone? She totally just does it. If she's worried? Yeah, she's said something about that too. Not wearing the mask has led to her become a lot more expressive in a sense. This part of her personality is not something that will change, no matter her situation or where she is in life. She tries to find the joy in life, though, and then fight for that joy. Also, honestly, she knows how to have fun when she actually puts aside the time to enjoy herself. Her idealism is what keeps her afloat, honestly. One of the things that she decided upon resuming her own personal identity was that she'd continue to fight for Ala Mhigo's freedom, like her father and sister before her. While she never spent much time in Ala Mhigo herself, due to having to flee at such a young age, she knows it's her country and she can't leave her countrymen to suffer just because she managed to end up somewhere better. It's because of this idealism and her anger towards what the Garlean empire has done to her fellow Ala Mhigans that she agrees to lead the resistance when it's brought up to her, and why she ultimately decides to leave the Scions. She wants Ala Mhigo to be the best that it can be, and she needs to focus her energy on making life better and picking the country back up after winning it back from the Garleans. It's important to note that Lyse has a quick temper, especially when she sees things happening to other people. While she tries to not fight needlessly as a general rule, she will absolutely jump in to defend people that need it, regardless of her own personal safety or consequences of her actions. She can be talked down from this when it may endanger other people, but she still needs to be grounded. She has an extremely good sense of what's right and what's wrong, and she hates to see people in power taking it out on those that cannot fight back. Again, while she's still trying to learn to slow down and make more educated decisions... that slips by her sometimes because habits can be hard to break, and this change is more a process for her than an overnight thing. She tries, but there are some things that just set her over the edge. Lyse is also quite impatient, and it can be difficult to get her to sit still for any prolonged period of time. She has to be doing something at all times, whether it be advancing on her quests or even just training. She can't stand just doing nothing and waiting for someone else to do it. Ultimately, though, Lyse is really just learning how to function as Lyse, rather than as Yda. Her journey through Stormblood has taught her a lot about people, why they fight, and what it takes to fight and stand up against an overwhelming force, and in turn that's helped her learn how to communicate and help people. It's reaffirmed with what she wants to do with her life, and she's made decisions that she would've never made back when she first assumed Yda's identity. And honestly, she hopes that she's made Papalymo proud with every single passing day. Powers and Abilities: Lyse is a pugilist, a class that's all about punching things really hard and really fast. The toolkit for pugilist essentially relies on dealing a lot of damage really quickly, and only after they've managed to warm up a bit. The longer she goes without a broken chain of movement, the harder and faster she hits. With that said, if she's knocked out of the zone somehow, she will have to deal with the process of getting back into the groove from step one. Because of the movement that monk requires, she's also quite light on her feet. Along with that, the pugilist toolkit also contains many ways to stun people and to attack from most angles (unless it's ranged, then she can't do anything). She's also capable of executing Final Heaven, an extremely powerful attack known as a limit break. She typically won't use that unless it's an incredibly dire situation, though. But honestly, in summary: she's really good at punching. There is a far more comprehensive list here for pugilist, but the gist of it is that she's honestly super good at punching. As of Stormblood, she's also capable of breathing underwater. Inventory: - Her traditional Ala Mhigan dress. - A leatherbound journal, filled with entries to Papalymo. - A pair of cesti that she has dubbed "The Gutwrenchers". Samples: TDM & Overflow |
